DRY NEEDLING/ACUPUNCTURE

DRY NEEDLING/ACUPUNCTURE

Dry needling, also known as medical acupuncture, is one of the treatments used to remove myofascial trigger points. The needling procedure consists in inserting a thin, acupuncture needle into a trigger point located earlier. As a result of the neurophysiological reaction, after insertion of the needle, trigger points are deactivated and the muscle fibers are relaxed.

Trigger points are sensitive areas in muscles that are under tension. They cause pain, often projected onto other parts of the body.

The most common reasons for the emergence of trigger points in our body are overload of the locomotor system, injuries, strains, long-term work in an unchanging position. Stress, emotional tension, metabolic problems as well as vitamin and micronutrient deficiencies also have a great influence.

It is estimated that 85% of chronic pain cases are due to myofascial trigger points. Dry needling is an effective and safe method of their treatment.
